Massey School of Aviation
Palmerston North

The Massey University Flight Operations Centre is the main base for the Bachelor of Aviation programme in NZ. A brand new 2,200m2 training centre was recently completed by Colspec Construction and offers a stunning new space for the programme.

Palmerston North Airport chief executive David Lanham says the development will build on the reputation the School of Aviation already has for delivering world-class aviation training programmes. “The new $5m facility will assist the school to further promote its capabilities to an international audience at a time when the demand for pilot and aviation management training is continuing to grow.”

Glen from Nexus architecture designed the space, and with large open plan designs, the management of acoustics was always a concern. The Acoufelt collection was an smart alternative for floor coverings, and the ‘Flinders’ collection was selected for its seamless pattern and textures with this monolithic installation. With an NRC co-efficient of .35, the Acoufelt carpet tiles provide an excellent solution in helping manage sound in these large open plan environments.
