After a long flight in late September, Quantum’s directors, Joseph and Larry, touched down in Portugal, and headed over to the Amorim HQ - the world’s biggest cork processing group, and our cork suppliers.

Amorim’s contributions to the business, innovation, and sustainability of the cork industry are unparalleled. Founded in 1870 after discovering the infinite potential of this 100% natural, raw material Amorim has made unprecedented investments in perfecting a large portfolio of cork products and projects, and since we introduced cork into the Quantum repertoire in 2017 they have been our long-term supplier of all cork related products.

Our directors were given a tour of the Amorim factory to see and hear about all things cork. They were truly impressed saying, “The fascination of cork and the story behind this truly sustainable, natural product never ceases to amaze.”

From their main product being the cork stopper, to a unique collection of cork flooring, to cork-base children’s toys there were many unique and important machines creating all kinds of wonderful products, and our directors were thrilled to learn that 60% of the plant’s energy needed for these machines were fuelled by a biomass made from the cork dust – a CO2 neutral source of energy- in both a continuing effort to create green energy and reuse any product waste! Our directors said that “seeing the process and production of the many varied cork products, and how Amorim’s manufacturing plants utilize every vestige of the cork is a testament to their ongoing desire for ongoing sustainability and support of Portugal’s native eco-systems.”
