3 Things to Consider When Choosing Tiles
Blog Post | Feb 2023

Tiles are (in our totally unbiased opinion) a fantastic choice for flooring and all coverings! With hundreds of styles to choose from, decision making can become a little difficult - so here are the 3 main things to consider when selecting your tiles:

  1. Style - both your personal style and the style of your home.
These days your options for tiling are numerous and it's very easy to find something to compliment any style. If you're going to make the investment of tiles, it's best to make sure your choice is going to fit both the rest of your home, and also your own personal sense of style. Bringing in pieces of wood, carpet, paint swatches, etc. when you go shopping is a great idea, as is borrowing some of our tile samples to see if they match the rest of your space.

  2. Light - both artificial and natural lighting in your space.
Take a sample home with you to see how it looks in your space at different times of the day - you may be surprised to see how the tones change in artificial light at night versus natural morning light. Using light colours and glossy finishes will make the room feel bright, and darker tiles will create a more cozy and moody atmosphere.

  3. Shape - both the size and the layout of your room.
Large format tiles trick the eye and make the room look larger and fewer grout lines make the room look less busy. A rectangular tile will make the direction that it's laid in look longer, for instance, if you have a low ceiling height you could lay the tiles vertically on the wall to make it look higher. Finally, if you have a small room or even one with a lot going on, using the same tile on the floor and wall will make the room look more cohesive and spacious.
