2026 TIDA New Zealand Powder Room of the Year Winner
Designed by Katie Scott of Sticks + Stones Design, this beach house powder room draws inspiration from the tui through deep tones, flashes of blue and considered texture, as part of a home where each bathroom references a different native New Zealand bird.
Nativa Vena Vein Cut Lapillo runs across the floor and wall, grounding the space and connecting it with the wider material palette of the home. Fusion Blue Gloss follows the curved shower wall, bringing a rich hit of colour that catches the light, while Artisan Finger Thunder Mosaic wraps the basin plinth and adds another layer of texture.
The shower itself is positioned close to the exterior entrance, giving guests somewhere to rinse off after the beach before heading further into the house. Its curved wall softens the room and creates a natural sense of movement through what is a relatively compact space.
It's a clever balance of personality and practicality, and a great example of how tile, colour and form can be used to tell a story without taking the idea too literally.
